According to a new report from IBM, the Manchester – Liverpool region has been ranked the 10th most popular location globally for foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2017.
FDI in Manchester – second largest in the UK
The IBM Global Location trends 2018 report states that the Manchester-Liverpool region has secured the largest number of investments outside the UK capital. They city continues to attract billions of pounds worth of global investment from large international companies.
With over 60 FDI projects collectively under its belt in 2017, creating 7,000 jobs, the report confirms Manchester as a globally significant investment destination. It makes comparisons to other popular international cities such as Toronto and Barcelona.
Innovation and Education Drive Interest in Manchester
The Northern Powerhouse investment further exemplifies the city’s economic growth and development ensuring the north west city continues to be a draw for the world’s most innovative companies and multinational brands.
Greater Manchester’s enviable access to talent is also proving a significant asset. Four universities offer world-class education to over 100,000 students each year. A further 22 universities and higher education institutions are within an hour’s drive, making the region is a lure for global investment.

According to a recent Reuters report, Hong Kong based investors in particular are turning towards the UK property market. It is a more affordable option due to the city’s record high commercial and residential property prices.
